Hello, first of all I have the letter through from the Election Office and it is official: I am the Liberal Democrat candidate for Portobello / Craigmillar. In the upcoming elections I ask to be your first preference!
The most important issue facing Portobello is that of the proposed new school.
I totally support building of the new school going ahead.
While I am uncomfortable about any council taking out legal action against opponents, I say enough is enough. The Portobello Park Action Group has already had their day in court and the verdict went against them. Portobello sorely needs this new secondary school. I understand the argument about common land but it is the people of Portobello who want to use the land to invest in the future of our young people and the community as a whole. It isn’t some edict that has been handed down on high from a remote and faceless bureaucracy.
I therefore call upon PPAG to end their legal action and accept the will of the majority of families in the area. I am certain most of us feel that building is long overdue and we still want to see a new school by 2014, although each day in court takes our new school another day further away.
